Maggie's Room was born through the 2021 lockdown and through the desire to make sustainable and independent brands more accessible.
With 10 years of experience in fashion design and a redundancy during Covid, the initial idea of Maggie's Room was born.
Founder Sophie Margaret Yesufu has always loved fashion and styling but began to lose the passion for it after having a family. The hours were long, pretty inflexible and really young fast fashion wasn't what she wanted to concentrate on.
Sustainable and slow fashion has always been an interest of hers and this passion was ignited further after redundancy and starting a styling instagram, @maggiesstyleedit.
Through lockdown, more and more sustainable, made to order and vintage stores began to pop up and Sophie was lucky enough to work with some of them through her styling work. Relationships were organically grown and without realising it, she was building a personal directory of her favourite independents.
Weekly styling edits on her Instagram brought frequent messages and comments like 'I have never heard of this brand but I love it' and 'It's so nice to see something a bit different, that's stylish and high quality, that considers the environment!'
This is when she had a lightbulb moment and the Maggie's Room idea came to life!

The name Maggie is not just her middle name but it was her Grandmother's too. She died before Sophie was born, but about 10 years ago she learnt about her Grandmother's interest and talent in fashion design. She found piles of her fashion illustrations in her parents loft and learnt that she had wanted to pursue a career in fashion but because of the 2nd World War, it never happened.
Although Sophie never met her Grandmother from her mothers side, she suddenly felt an instant connection to her and so naming the site after her felt only right and fitting.

Sophie is dedicating this to her Grandmother, Margaret and her Mother, Lisa for blessing her with their creativity and giving her the confidence and strength to boss it alone!!!
